Sufis?

Post by zackabdul »

I've never heard of these people, I just started hearing about them on this forum.

Who are they?

What do they believe in that's different from what Sunni's believe in?

And lastly, any Sufis on this forum?

Thanks in advance..

95% of Somalis are Sufi. That should be a strong hint.

Sufism is the combination of Islam and Pagan traditions. I'm sure that roughly 70% of Muslim countries have strong Sufi identity.

Zach, you are also a Sufi due to your upbringing, almost all Somalis practice it, old and young. As for me, I like Sufi culture but I hate Sufis. I honestly want them all dead. Pure Islam teaches rationality and reality, but these Sufi scumbags twist everything and turn Islam into a scary jinn-filled religion. Too many times I've been told lies by these crack heads.

Whenever someone has told you that jinn slaps people or that jinn can enter your body at any moment, its Sufism and completely Xaram, there is nothing in the Quran that suggests something so obviously ridiculous. A good chunk of what we know about Islam is influenced by Sufism. I'll keep my kids far from these parasites.

There's a lot more I want to say about these animals, but I'll leave it here.

95% of Somalis? That is ridiculous.

I heard they do rituals and shid but I've never seen it. I don't think I'm a Sufi, I'm just a normal Sunni.

What do you mean I'm a Sufi due to my upbringing? My parents have never told me anything about Sufism, so I wouldn't know what that means. I've never met a Sufi in my life either.

Sxb please explain a little more. What does one do to be classified as a Sufi?

I'm being generous with 95%, it was much more before the civil war. Before 1991, virtually all Somalis were Sufi since there was no other major practice (like Salafism). Before the introduction of Salafism in the early 1990s, Somalis practiced a more liberal interpretation of Islam. This led to the co-practice of Sufism, which was not prohibited.

Like I said, the grand majority of Somalis were raised as Sufis. I don't know a single aunt or grandmother that doesn't take part in Sufism, the men usually condemn it. These traditions include digri, among other practices. I can't name the rest, but you've heard of them and even took part in them.

I'd really like to say more, I just don't know how to put my ideas into words. Plain and simple, Somalia is a Sufi nation, but things are slowly changing.

You're completely mistaken. Before 1991, there were Somalis who would fit the label Wahhabi or Salafi (labels that weren't known or popular locally or internationally back then), and they were known as Akhwaan. I have Akhwaan relatives who were arrested and tortured by Somalia's then government. Akhwaan Somalis have been present from mid-1970s (or even before) and upward.

sufisim waa islaamka sax ah. sababtoo ah diinta islaamka waxaa faafiyey waa suufiyada.
suufisim waa sida ay somalia islaamka uu ku soo gaarey.

unlike so called salafisis aka WAHABI. diinta maaha dagaal. is dil. naagaha dhar madmadoow loo galiyo, in ALLAH laga dhigo mid hal meel fadhiya sida SALAFIGA AKA WAHABIGA ay ka dhigaan.

wahaabiga oo kale inay wax waliba yiraahdaan waa SHIRK. inay wahaabiga sacuudiga. ay ula dhaqmaan qof allah caqliga siiyey hadduu xitaa NABIGA SCW amaano, ay yiraahdaan NABIGA ayaad caabudeysaa.

sufiyada waa islaamka xaqiiqda. waa sidii kaliya ay dinta islaamka malaayiin from AASIA TO AFRICA AY ku gaartey.

The first Sufi brotherhood, the Qadiriyyah, was founded by Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilaani, then Principal of the Hanbali school in Baghdad, some time after AD 1134. This group sent missionaries to both East and West Africa and as far north as Chechnya. They were responsible for the creation of the Islamic Kingdom of Sokoto in Nigeria. The Sayyid and Aweys Al-Baraawe were both leading members. The group was generally considered straight-up Sunni, unlike other Sufi groups.

If I understand this correctly, the Aweysiyya broke off from the Qadiriyya when Shaykh Aweys was killed at Biyooley, and they have pursued a tradition of honoring saints.
