Somalis were the only nation never to be enslaved, throughout history.

Its true, the jareer were slaves. Those river folk were the ones which embarassed us by laying down on muddy ground so that the Italian's shoes wouldnt get wet. I feel sorry for them...its almost as though Jareer people, no matter which country they are in, are designed for a life of subservience and slavery. Other Somalis would never have accepted that. Sadly, these guys are so anti heirachy, that they dont even want a president or a government... :?

As Muslims, Somalis were rarely enslaved. They did, however, hold slaves. There was an entire plantation system in the middle Shebelli:

The_Patriot,

I'm from the south, especially where there were many slave plantations, and yes, we did have slaves. My family came to the south in the mid 1800s and we held slaves until the end of world war 1. My family held Bantu slaves, but other families had Oromo slaves, which were popular and could be assimilated into families later on.

Here is in excerpt from the book "Unraveling Somalia: Race, Violence, and the Legacy of Slavery."

By the way, Somalis were kept from slavery for two reasons; one because they were Muslim, and also because they were just weak and lazy. They never did manual labor and had a history of physical incompetence. You can't have a slave who can't do his work. Even in Western countries, Somalis rarely do the minimum wage jobs at restaurants and such.

Also, I've heard that Habeshis in Somali Galbeed used to take Somalis as slaves when they refused to pay taxes. I don't know how that turned out.

Try to learn history first. Do you know the first time the Habesha dared to come down from their highland garrison to even reach Somalis?

Also, do you know how much the Habesha used to fear the Somali people even when the Euros were giving them firearms?

Ignorant kid. Illiterate pubs like this are the worst liability for us.

I HEARD <-- KEY WORD.

I heard it in this video documentary on Bartamaha. 5 Minutes into the video, a Somali historian talks about Abyssinian tax collectors taking Somalis as slaves when tribute was not paid in other forms.

Somali historian?? Do you know who that fukker is?? He is Abdulmajid Hussein, Meles Zenewi's permanent Ambassador to the United Nations until he died couple years ago. He was ALWAYS a Xabasho jaajuus masquerading himself as a Somali but who was really working for the Xabash. So much for what he says. This is like me tring to demean African Americans but saying it in nondescriptive fashion. For example, yes Blacks were oppressed in Americans but it is like me saying even African american boys might have been raped. All in the context of oppression it makes sense, but all I am trying to do is demean them without anyone being the wiser.

We have REAL LIFE accounts of events as they were happening kiddo. I will present them in due time.

That is the same fukker why Al itihad became world wide and Ethiopia invaded Gedo. Al Itixaad carried out three assasination attempts against the fukker in the 90's. Three high profile assasination attempts, as you can see he was a united nations ambassador.
