The part of the Sayids story that doesn't get told is that his militarism was opposed by Aweys al-Baraawe, whose followers wounded him in fighting in Southern Somalia after his losses to the British in the North. Sayidka fled the Aweysiya and died at Imo in Ethiopia in 1920.

The Sayid lost. Aweys' philosophy and writings were notably successful, especially after his martyrdom at the hands of the Sayid's followers at Biyoole in 1909. Aweys and his Sufi movement is generally credited with stopping the Christian missionaries in East Africa. This part of the story needs to get told, too.
