Oromo sub clans claiming Somalis

Yesterday I had a conversation with several Oromo people and they claim that all Somalis in Ogadenia particularly, Dir and Hawiye are Oromos.

They said Oromos that live among Somalis in the major cities of Ogadenia claim Issa, Sheikhal, Habar Awal and Leelkase. They also said these clans are Oromo sub clans.

Conclusion: Some Somalis are mutli-ethnic, Oromo today Somali tomorrow

what your oromo friends is saying might be many somalis in ethiopia are mixed. if you read about the history of the region, you will know that the Arsi clan Oromos invaded Ogaden and the somali region in ethiopia many centuries ago before ethiopia became "Ethiopia"

actually some of the oromo controlled region today used to be somali controlled region so "Oromia" has also stolen somali territories in history.

Secondly, the surrounding area near Djibouti, northern Somaliland and the "Dire Dawa" has many somalis MIXED with southern Afar, northern Oromo and eastern amhara since the Adal Sultanate 15th century.

No what they were trying to say is all Somalis are Oromo. But since some decend from my patriarch I had to give them a history lesson to distinguish between ethnic Somalis and Oromos who have become Somali after a few decades/centuries without intermarriage.

I agreed with some of their points seeing that some clans have been in existance for less then 800 yrs and still live with Oromos. Use Oromo sub-clans and pass them off as Somali sub clans.

Also, interestingly enough my Oromo friend swears Hawiye was Oromo group until 200 years ago. According to my friend, Hawiye is really the son of Arer the son of Baabile the son of Qalu the son of Barantuma. Wallahi, I can have Shirib here verify that I am telling the truth. That is the 3rd Oromo I have spoken to about ethnicities and the third Oromo that swore to me Hawiye is Oromo.

Yh I have seen them claiming HW all the time......but than again oromos are our closest relatives in the horn of africa, wether they came from us or we came from them, one thing is for sure, we are cousins. 8)

Hawiye and Dir are not oromo, they were people like afar and oromo, a "chushetic" group of people closely related to oromo and anfar. And as they started to mix and intermarry Darood, they [Dir, Darood, Hawiye] all became Somaali ama Samaal together, ama dadka "Soo-maalo" since they were nomadic camel herders unlike their neighbors.
