I wonder why the Somali community who are majority wise Muslims follow the acts of FIRCOON and practice the harmful Pharoanic Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) commonly known as Female Circumcision. Surely does it worth to follow this culture? Please give me your views.

FGM is a pagan ritual. It isn't from Islam, therefore, a fatwa banning it should be issued.

In Islam, circumcising women isn't a requirement.

Again there is a hadith.. Scholars say is a sunnah for women and wajib for men.... Have you heard of the hadith?

It's not sunnah for men, it's wajib (obligatory) however it is sunnah for women.

How is it Sunnah for women?..Sunnah means 'the way of the Prophet' ..i.e his actions.

His daughter wasn't circumcised..neither were the Mothers of the Faithful. Male circumcision is not considered wajib by all schools of fiqh..Maliki and Hanafi fuqaha consider it only as Sunah Mu'akkah...recommended but not obligatory.

sis, sunnah mu'akkada is the sunnah that is being stressed/emphasized for its importance, the other one is sunnah ghayr mu'akkada

this Hadith is considered Da'if (a weak Hadith). Abu Dawud himself commented: "It is not a strong tradition. It has been transmitted in Mursal form (missing link of the Sahabah). A narrator, Muhammad bin Hassan is obscure, and this Hadith is Da'if."

In the Shafi'ci school its * be ready to get a heart attack* wajib..i.e obligatory..Hanbali School it is Sunnah..Maliki and Hanafi schools it isnt!

It cannot be Sunnah..since sunnah means the actions of the Prophet (p)..so it refers to male circumcision.

The sooner we rid our country of all forms of female mutilation the better. No fircouni or 'Sunnah' nonsense .
