Again?

Balance?

Somalia seems useless without a Cold War?

This has nothing to do with the cold war or another superpower. This is about establishing an Islamic state. Both America and then Soviet superpowers were against establishing an Islamic state in any Muslim country.

Ethnic conflicts could undo Tanzania.

If not for vigorous American/European intervention, Kenya would have become another Somalia or worse. You should study the history of Tanzania's ethnic conflicts and the possibility of an eruption.

Its not about Islam, the hell are you guys on about...?

Eternauta, the US has supported many Islamic groups -- the Bosnians and Albanians come to mind. The US continues to torment the Serbian people by supporting Bosnians and Albanians; who are often violent and predatory towards the Christian Serbs.

And the US has also supported the Taliban in many instances, mainly to help them against the opium dealers.

Religion doesn't mean anything in politics. The US and Soviets supported anyone on their side of the ring and Muslims are not a single entity; so supporting an Islamic group in the mountains of Russia (CIA) does not equate to supporting Islamists. Vice versa for the Soviets as well. Muslims are split up into nations and at that point, its not about being Muslim, its about carrying an agenda.

Assuming another superpower existed ,why (and how)would they somehow resuscitate a failed state?? In another 20 years China will be a world giant, but I don't think they'd oblige cause you killed some of their engineers in the Ogaden last year. If the former state territory had anything they desired,eg. oil, uranium or gold they'd simply find the most cost effective extraction option and co-opt 'leaders' ,if necessary manufacture said 'leaders' -which would preclude establishing from scratch,a functioning country squealing about environmental, financial, wealth sharing matters.
