this is really popular in the mid-east. somalis send money from europe and north america... where they are really busy and can't have a proper wedding... or where they live in remote towns (believe it or not, there are some somalis in small towns in MONTANA)... and so they experience their wedding through a video tape of a fabulous wedding done in a country of their choice 
hey, i'm sure you heard of people getting a nikaah on the phone... so why be surprised this is happening? it actually makes sense more, imho. especially with cases where the woman is in africa and the man in austria-- i mean really, wtf.
