Do you think after going to college in the west would make you undermine the qabiil ideology?

no, not completely. but it does open your eyes a bit to other things in life more important than just tribal cultures, thus making it less important.
Re: DOES COLLEGE EDUCATION MAKE YOU UNDERMINE QABIIL IDEOLOGY
Only you is not enough....you need all somalis or at least the majority of them to undermine this ideology.

no, not really. because i never use to be qabil fan. but i guess it does, because living in this country does give one the credit of seeing the world beyond qabil, warfare and hatered.

Somalian boqor..not qabiil per say but QABYAALAD....tribalism...not the tribes dude..and I think being in a higher learning institute does open your eyes to a lot of thinks and makes you question the lifestyle or ways that have become so accustom to us...

Re: DOES COLLEGE EDUCATION MAKE YOU UNDERMINE QABIIL IDEOLOGY
It helps to have civilized parents who are nonclanist and who have friends across clans. Kids follow the foot steps of their parents and majority of their attitude is shaped by them in their impressionable years. If a kid is bombarded with negativity, lies and gossip of other somalis, feeds on stable diet of hubris and clan hatred, it is normal for them to grow up thinking that is the correct attitude to deal with fellow citizens. To me, a corrupt parent/family who values clan ideology means a corrupt off-spring who espouses the same incivility, insecurity and bigotry. A clanist parent means a clanist progeny. Ever heard isma dhaanto iyo dhasheed? Most somalis fit that saying. Somalia is a living witness to what feudal clan based system and culture does to its society. They never make progress. Their best educated come under the influence of their worst men and no amount of college education will convince them to exercise their freedom of thought and be a force for change. These bankrupt secular educated somalis become agents and foot-soldiers for the forces of doom that destroy slowly a society in need of repair.
There is no hope when kids who can't write, read and speak somali are as confused and uncivilized as their elder relatives.
