A PERSONAL PLEA TO GANG MEMBERS

Dear Somalinet members,

I am very concerned by the increasing level of violence in our community. It seems as though somali on somali violence has dramatically increased and there is no end to this violence that has brought pain and misery to our community. I am writing this plea because I feel there is no longer any hope. Young people are dying for no reason. we left our homes because of violence and now we have to endure even more violence. Our community leaders have let us down, the police continually brutalises Somalis on a daily basis. we must stand up and bring an end to this Somali on Somali violence.

I was reading the London lite lately and it had a picture of all the young people who died in London as a result of violent crimes. All together there was 26 young people and 4 were somali. This is completely unproportional and completely unacceptable. Additionally all those somalis who were killed, were killed by another somali.

If you are in a gang, please lay down your arms and promote peace. Please stop killing your countrymen. We are one people. Please promote peace and spread a message of love and respect for one another.

It is not Somali on Somali crime all the time. The sad thing is that it is sometimes our fault that our young people are the victims of social crime. However, London Lite is a free newspaper written by amateurs so don't always believe what they write to be true.

Why don't you go up to the gangs and tellem this message personally because I don't think they use the internet.
