Naaima am sure you gonna get help very quickly. When you go to Leceister, Just ask for the House Of Gen Darwish. He is a nice guy who loves people and will take care of you.

I went there for the JIMAS conference gosh was I stunned the city centre is like meel madfac ku dhacay it is a deserted old looking town few people on the streets. I was dragged into the somali corner shops hehehe! I kept saying to myself " nah this can't be true" but the university looks superb I like the green environment.

In terms of living cost yeah I heard its pretty cheap all cities outside london are, try getting yourself into the university dorms, than as your progress into 2nd year you can adjust into shared accommodation with the new friends you make or on your own. As for imporving on your accent well that depends on who you hang around with..(just kidding) dont worry about that. It wont be much of a problem.

Good luck!

Naaima,

Leicester is not a bad city, and i'm sure you will end up liking it. There are bad and good people everywhere, but as you know Somali people like to have an opinion on anything and everything, just keep yourself out of their way and get on with your life and your education.

As for it's education, Leicester Uni offers a wide variety of courses and is considered one of the more decent Uni's in the country. A few of my friends have obtained a degree from Leicester Uni, and they've said it's all hard work but it's definitely worth it. If you'd like i could get some more info for you.
You're broken English with the heavy Danish accent will be a slight problem, when applying for (leicester) uni they expect your English to be of a certain standard. They will ask you to do an exam in written/spoken english before they actually offer you a place. Another way of bypassing this is to ask at the college (gymnasiet) where you study if they have some sort of international English exam which then will enable you to go straight on to Uni in the Uk with-out having to do an "entrance" exam.

Part-time jobs are quite easy to find (agency work etc), but most of them are low-paid and not really worth doing. If you're lucky you might find something which is decent paying. If you don't opt for agency work then i'm sure you could find some sort if work within the field you're studying, see it as "experience" work.

i will find very difficult to integrate such a big city with a lot of somalis..i grew up in a rural area and was bored silly but beautiful... i will diffently not miss life in a small town but but ill probably miss miss knowing everyone by name, everybody knows everybody and you wave to each other and know that they would be there for you in good times and bad...and somalis? oh NO NO way, i never grew up with them  ..btwn i heard the abaayos are BBC and daango bac bacleey

alx,i am currently graduating from college (gymnasiet->hhx). Macaanto my plan is not study abraod a year (take a semester in lc, uni) but i want to improve my english skills nothing else, and my priority is to find a job too. moving to the country where the speak the language its the most natural and best way to learn the langauge  and you will develop very fast...while i am there i am expecting to develop essential writing, vocabulary and grammar and accent skills and also the conversational skills too...inshalah
