Somali Dudes, come In.

Post by Murax »

Do You ever kick it with other Somali dudes and if so how do You overcome the cheapness.

The waiter bringing the tab is usually a cause for a mass exodous of Somali tables leaving behind one or two people out of 9. Somebody has to wash their hands, somebody has to use the phone, somebody has an emergency etc. I grew up with older bros and they were the most gacan furan people I knew, laakin with Somalis I guess You gotta play the bakhayl/stingy game even though I hate that shyt. Either that or You don't hang with Somalis period.

I've never been in that situation before. When I go out with my friends- we each pay our share. So there's no arguments, no fuss, and no embarrassment. On special occasions one person will pay for everyone. But usually everyone pays their half - it's easier that way. My sister calls it the "white way" lol.

Murax:- I just realized this thread was aimed at the brothers - am sorry walaal. :)

Murax,

I am not a Dude, but I want to let you know that it is time we encourage our people, to learn how to put their hands in their pockets...Waa in gacantooda iyo jeebkooda la is baraa..as some one put it long time ago..

Waa dhaqan xumo in dadka la shaxaado oo qado laga sugo...What is wrong with everyone paying his Qado

Don't be shy wallaahy, let everyone pay his share...

if im among somalis or arabs we usually fight over who will pay the bill.
if its among westerners we simply go dutch...

but sometimes i like to mix it up a little,
when im on a date i sometimes ask the girl to pay...
saying common i thought you believe that we are both equal?

then you pay..

Firefly/Mad Scientist,

No worries actually value the input. I'm really suprised girls do that that too. I thought that girls are usually much more image concious and reserved so they wouldn't do that so they don't get a label.

Kambuli,

Waa run. Its confusing how Somali culture looks down on bakhaylnimo but Somalis are the most bakhayl people. It seems they worship aspects of their culture they like and ignore the others particularly when they involve money.

Guray,

Actually the dudes I really hang with We fight over who takes the bill but its sometimes when other people wanna chill with us that night where We notice that shyt

SDM,

A lot of restarants are going with no split the check rule. At IHOP 100 madow would come back from the club and ask the check to be split and they would lie about what they ate kawaran. Now everywhere waxay ku dijiyeen NO SPLIT CHECKS

Only best friends should pay each other's food. I had my fair share of buying another dude's qado, b/c he doesn't have enough money on him and whatnot. Waa layska samraa.

Usually when I'm with Somalis, we all go Dutch. Its when we go out for simple drinks when people fight over who pays the bill.

Grown men and women should have a job, and therefore money and they can then pay for their own food/drinks.

There's nothing more off-putting than a grown man who doesn't have money! Ceeb caleyk!

wow so about 9 would eat and ditch the bill for one or two, thats just selfish. I haven't experience this cause i really don't know any Somali dude to hang with. But if i ever do, i'll make sure to be the first one off the table

Seperate bills. Mind you freinds asking to borrow money is another thing, some are quick to pay back, others u'll forget before they repay.

The funny part is, I used to have friends who worked 40 hours a week and somehow where always broke and they would ask me to pay for the order, most of the time, I did, but it seem bit odd until I started to carry enough change to fit me and only me.
