Does anyone actually celebrate "Somalia day"? :?

It's just the day that whitey gave us independence. It's not like we have much else to celebrate.

Everybody should celebrate this day.

Do you think it was easy to get that independence?? ppl fought for it, some lost their lives..some everything dear to them
So that they could provide the future generations that independence and god given right.

Just think of 1st or 4th of july..its not a daiy to be taken lightly..unfortunatelt for Somalia and somalis..we have a more dire situation to solve.

Its both.

After WW2, Africans at large demanded independence from colonial rulers....in most African countries there were educated elites that were taught self reliance and determination in the West.

So you have the demand for the Euros to go...but you also have the Euros realizing that having over seas empires were becoming more and more costly and were taking some steps to make smooth transitions...

Djibouti and other French colonies were different...I forgot the process but the French stayed in some of their holdings a little longer with a promise to help in the nation building and all that ish...or they said they would leave and the Africans would be left on their own with no help from Paris.....

anyway its all fuzzled up on my mind but yeah its a mix of both

Independence from Italia, the symbolic unification of two African countries forming for a common goal (I mean go back in time, think about the proportions and prospects BACK THEN) and for us Americans its right next to July 4th...why not celebrate?!

Kambuli...my mom said "You really think you will know Somali in 2 or 3 months? You won't!"

Fah

A little correction..its NOT a unfication of 2 African countries...but that of 2 somali territories divided by 2 diff. colonial countries.

Somalia was and still remains one country/nation and one ppl(for lack of a better word) under God.
