Biggest argument against the ruling party? The presidents wife Abdullahi Gul wore a hijab in public. This is the guy they fear so much.. Compare him to al-shabab

Pay attention exactly at 10;10 when girls are made to take off their hijab before they enter the university.

yes since i remember you cannot enter any government building with hijab
you can go out in public, market etc.
my cousin was in university there and she had to take off her hijab once she got the university's door
then wear once she is out.

U know what the funny part about Turkey is, no matter how hard they tried, no matter how Europeanized they became, no matter how hard they tried to opress Islam, no matret how much they tried to be like the gaalo,

THEY STILL HAVEN'T ACCEPTED THEM INTO THE EUROPEAN UNION

Funny because no European country is willing to accept them.

This is kinda of like the somali fella in big brother UK, he boast about drinking, eating swine and fornicating. But they still bully him and refuse to accept him.

You obviously have no grasp about Turkey's European Union membership bid.

Its not the Islam hating secularists who are pursuing the policy, as they are a bunch of chauvinistic Statists who worship brute force. They hate the idea because it then means they have to abide by European mores regarding Human Rights and Freedoms. They wouldn't be able to engage in their favourite sport; using the army or the High Court to kick out the government for some infraction against their precious 'secularism'. Stupid censorship laws, the Hijab ban and 'insulting Turkishness' would fly out the window rather quickly. Basically, every tool of intimidation and force the secularists have at their disposal would be removed from them were they to move towards EU membership, as the treaty requires.

The AKP, I think, pursues the EU bid because it enables them to neutralise the secularists without having to directly confront them in the Turkish setting, where they have the power. They are the ones fighting for transparency, anti-corruption, democracy, free market ideals and all the rest. They can then portray themselves as the forward thinking progressives, while making out the secularists to look like dictators in waiting, and not the virtuous 'defenders of Turkish democracy', as the 'secularists' like to claim. This is why the secularists try, unsuccessfully, to compare the suit wearing AKP Congressmen as the next incarnation of the Taliban.

I rather enjoy watching the whole situation.

From what I understand the cyprus issue and the state denial of the armenian genocide are the main reasons the EU are not willing to accept turkey. Turks are all secular even the 'conservative islamists'.

Turkey and Saudi arabia are two muslim countries we can do without.
