Is it safe to say in 2008 that Hargeisa's population has either surpassed or is equal with the number of population in Mogadisho?

Keep in mind the killings going on over there over the years and quite recently the heavy number of civilians displaced in various parts of the country.

Your comparing the Xamar of old to Hargeisa, he is comparing the Xamar of today to Hargeisa. Xamar back in the day from what I can remember in my early childhood years was much more populous than the Xamar of today, it had almost everything and anything you ask for. The Xamar we see today has people deserting the city as we speak. Hargeisa on the other hand is stable and has an increasing population.

My point being.......could this be true or not.
I'm not talking about it's former glory days with nice infastructure, i couldn't care less about that.
My question involves the population.

Mogadishu - 2 Million (2.5 Million According to Sheikh Sharif)

Hargeisa - 600,000 (500,000 According to Somaliland government http://www.somalilandgov.com/)



Around 1 Million have been displace but most of those displaced are in camps in the outskirts of the City. Even if you deducat that from the statistics above no Somali city got a higher population.

I'd have to say Hargeisa is by far Somalia's largest city today. It was Somalia's 2nd capitol in the past and is only bigger today, while Xamar is a ghost city. To be honest I don't think Xamar will ever approach its former glory years or even come close. The property damage there that accumilated in the last 18 years is just too massive.

Well as of right now it is Afgooye. The regular population plus 1,000,000+ displaced people.
