Proper English :-)

Post by Warsan_Star_Muslimah »

Asalamu alikum to all

I've noticed that in the UK section people keep typing topics in slang  and mashallah I'm no stuck-up person and try understand as far as I can. Laakin I must say it is annoying A! B) It is hard to follow what ever that person is saying C) well I C myself out of that topic afterwards.

I understand your mostly young but please if you want advice or etc...write in standard English, and proof-read your writing. It makes difference trust me.

Inshallah I have not offended anyone; if I did well forgive and forget.

Asalamu alikum

Oxy really its that bad for me :| There's no one I can speak slang with, and to be honest some words I don't understand. Plus I dislike it :| I have to admit, there's no reason for us to speak slang online. This is a public forum and everyone should be able to understand!

Cisse aboowe don't you think that's abit of a slippery-slope; I mean they might not turn out to be toilet cleaners. Plus I believe a job is better then being on benefits, as long as the job is halal then inshallah it is okay.

This is not to say I don't want the best for Somali teenagers and kids, I want for them to be the next doctors, lawyers, MPs, Business women/men etc inshallah.

sisster warsan

trust me, most slang users turn out to be securtiy guards for the males. and toilet cleaners for the females.

just check your local uni/college. all the toilet cleaners and securtiy guards are from a certain group

My university is located outside london, and most of the cleaners and security guards are cadaan, but you know the some I observed were low-class ones, and you can tell their education is limited

But in London all the cleaners are Black- African or Carribeans, and the few odd cadaans. Again they don't have much of an education.

Military-mind- If I could write af-Somali I would; trust me. I think Cisse can write somali?!

I have never complained about people writing Somali, since I want to learn it, and this was one of the reasons I joined Snet.

Warsan,

I myself dont understand what most of them are saying, and I must say it is really disapointing to see most Somali young people talk slang like it is proper english.

Just imagine how ackward they will feel when they go to US or Canada and want to converse with other english-speaking groups.
