Female circumcision is Islamic and cultural for Somali and a widely practiced part of the world whether Muslim or none Muslim .

the connotation of FGM female genital mutilation is a psychological warfare to terrorist the weaker mind.
calling FGM will have the upper hand for those who are gaining on somali woman sexual emancipation.
to dilute the somali and islamic culture of the somali race.

and top of it to create a bridge between younger generation, born and bread in europe and the older generation who still hold dear to their islamic believe and somali culture.

the older generation are those that have been circumcised and the younger one are those that have not.

Families will be dissolved as the pride (cizaa) of those families which are their girls will be brain washed and sexual freedom will create a high number of ba5tards (unlawful children).


IT IS ISLAMIC AS NO SHEIKH IN THE WORLD WILL PROVE AND PROVIDE A VERSE OF THE KORAN OR AN AUTHENTIC HADITH TO SAY THAT FEMALE CIRCUNCISION IS HARAM.

HOWEVER AS MYSELF DJIBSOMALI HAVE PROVIDED ON NUMEROUS OCCASION THAT IT IS ISLAMIC
AND SPECIALLY A SHAAFI TENET.


a simple proof is as follow:

There is A more authentic Hadeeth in which Prophet Muhammad (P) is reported to have passed by a woman performing circumcision on a young girl. He instructed the woman by saying:
"Cut off only the foreskin (outer fold of skin over the clitoris; the prepuce) but do not cut off deeply, for this is brighter for the face (of the girl) and more favorable with the husband.

IF IT WAS HARAM THE PROPHET WOULD HAVE STOPPED.
BUT NO.
HE ADVISED ON HOW TO PRACTICE THE CIRCUMCISION.

It's one of those acts which are neither haraam or an act of ibaadah. He neither disagreed with it or agreed, he (saw) left it up to us to choose but gave us guidelines and not go to extremes. He was never (forgive me if I'm wrong) heard saying do it ..

I remember watching Channel 4 - the Qur'an documentary (which went on for 2 hours) and one brother which I have lost respect for said it is not islamic, rather an african practice and has no stand in islam therefore haraam. I couldnt believe it.

The somali one is abit extreme,they don't cut a little (which the hadith says) they cut all and furthermore stitch up the girl, leaving a tiny hole for her to pee, and menses for later in life.

I don't like it FULL STOP.

However I will abide the one in which they cut a little, this usually means she still has her parts, and is not stitched up.

Either way the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) never practised it, so whats the point to it? Surely if the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) saw any benefits or wisdom to it he would have insisted his daughters and wives have it done too; right?

Very true, but the point still stands that they might have not been circumcised. As you pointed out the opposite is valid too.

In terms of the Shaafi Madhaab that somalis follow, I have A classical manual of Islamic sacred law and it says:

e4.3 Circumcision is obligatory (O: for both men and women. For men it consists of removing the prepuce from the penis, and for women, removing the prepuce (Ar. bazr) of the clitoris (n: not the clitoris itself, as some mistakenly assert).

By all means lets preserve our culture, but lets not distort Islam. Islam did not condone removing everything and then stitching her up, which causes so much hardship and suffering for the females. I have seen this first-hand.

FGM is backward culture. we need to move on, somalis. stiching innocent girls, dont decrease the leve of h0ness in our community. we need aducation, not backward, ignorant culture. some somali cultures i will gladly leave behind, and FGM is definetly one!
