Somalia: Islamist spokesman supports aid worker killings

MOGADISHU, Somalia July 14 (Garowe Online) - A man who spoke on behalf of an armed Islamist group in Somalia has claimed responsibility for a spate of recent assassinations, mainly targeting local and foreign aid workers.

The spokesman, who identified himself only as Sheikh Mohamed, said during an audio recording that aid agencies "assist" Ethiopian troops and Somalia's interim government forces.

Sheikh Mohamed specifically signaled out the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which he said funds the Somali army.

Further, he accused UNDP of aiding Ethiopia's 2006 invasion, which ousted the Islamic Courts movement from Mogadishu, saying: "The UN agencies took part in the war that destroyed the Islamic Courts, and they [UN] gave weapons, money and fuel to troops fighting against the Mujahidiin (Islamic fighters)."

A number of aid workers have been killed in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia since last month, with the UN and local aid agencies now considering to halt their operations there.

I believe those aid workers aren't more important than ordinary Somalis who die day in day out. Far fewer aid workers die than ordinary Somalis, yet the latter get almost zero attention or coverage. Frankly, I don't care about those aid workers, especially Western aid workers. My primary concern is ordinary Somalis.

The consequence of killing Somalis is dead Somalis. The consequence of killing aid workers is starving Somalis with reduced access to medical care. Let's see their plan to deal with the drought crisis before we start applauding the alShabaab for their campaign to drive the aid agencies out of the country.

However, Isnt it pretty obvious that the same people who displaced the starving would want to finish them off and choke them from any help? The same who are funding the sea pirates maybe? the same who support the shelling, Murder, rape of the innocent?

Sadly we've got the impression that the same men who have their relatives starving as displaced would want to kill the very same aid workers that came to help.

The argument of Al shabab hunting CIA informants posing as Aid workers may make sense but it remains a hear say as No one can possible prove or accept a theory such as 'al shabab may have found a laptop containing information of CIA informants'.

Where as so far there have been more evidence then here say that would suggest, the Head of Secret service Darwish and M'dhere are behind these killings as they have openly accused the Masses of displaces Mogadishu civilians of being Terrorist which leads us to understand why those that decide to Help these 'Terrorist' are not welcome.
