Computer Wiz help!

Post by MJ-Pride »

My favorite HP laptop is acting up funny. I am stuck with a slow ass Toshiba one and I really need to fix my Hp as soon as possible. Anybody can help me before I take it to laptop technician?

Every time I try to start the Laptop, I am getting this error "Drivelock HDD Bay Password" with a long key next to it. I have never set a password on this laptop and when I don't enter a password, the system displays' No disk error'

I tried to access the BIOS menu to reset the window, but it ain't allowing me after I press F10 :x

I called the HP, but they say you have to change the whole Hard Drive, and I can't afford to lose this hard drive. I have all my pics, files and everything you can think of

Any help?

Here is the computer specification

HP 6710b Business Vista with Intel Centrino Duo

If you have a cd/dvd drive, you can use a Linux Live CD to rescue your files. If you have two cd/dvd drives (i.e. one external in addition to the internal), you can use one drive for the Linux Live CD, the other drive to burn your files. If not, you can use a USB drive to save your files. There are some Linux Live CDs that could fix HD errors.

well if its that bad, you can get a 20 GB or even a 40 GB external hard drive and have all your files, they don't/shouldn't cost that much now a days

Google that exact same phrase and I assure you, you will be able to fix that problem. I don't know anything about computers and I always fix my computer. :D

How can you burn or save files when you can't even access the windows to begin with? Are you telling me to do this while the computer is locked?

Qansa, I searched, but most people are saying you have to buy a hard drive

When you put a Linux Live CD in your cd/dvd drive and restart, it will boot Linux. Within Linux, you can open a folder that contains your Windows HD (C:\). You insert a USB stick, and start copying your files to it.

$0 (if you have internet connection & cd/dvd drive). You download and iso file and burn it to a cd/dvd. From where?

Latest Knoppix (dvd, +4GB)

ftp://ftp.knoppix.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr ... -04-EN.iso

Previous Knoppix (cd, 696MB)

MJ, ur HD is damaged bro. Perhaps u've dropped the system without noticing it. Replace the HD but keep ur damaged drive, when ur system is back up and running then u can just use an IDE to usb connector and copy the files from one drive to the other. There r also so many recovery softwares out there that u can use.

Haddad, that actually pretty cool work around but I don't think the system will actually boot up that point. Its right off the bat that the lock comes up. btw hows Knoppix, i've actually just wiped my off the Ubuntu, trying to install the newer one Ubuntu Ultimate.
