Hmmm! Dr Yalaxow - thanks for the historical pictures. You tried to embarras Mohammed farah aidid, but you helped me collect important pictures. I think is Brig, Gen Mohammed farah Aidid. After all, he was a member of the SRC parliament and appointed head member Somalia's Defence Committee (1980-1984). and use to order the weaponry Somalia needed to defend It's borders. Brig Gen Mohamed Farah Aidid come out of prison in 21 oct 1975. And two months later was appointed Military General by Mohamed Siad barre and He (Aidid) led the somali Army heroes that conquest Dir dawa,half of harar and push the habasha back to the hills of harar. You making big deal out of the President of the nation taking with Gen and a member of the national defence Committe (1980-1984) on a tour.


What you need to remember is that - Mohammed siad barre had no military experience nor weaponry knowledge. And needed the help and the advice of the military generals. Mohamed siad barre was a police man before - he got appointed chief of the army forces by (AUN) President Adan adde in 1960. And the reason was - almost all the western well-trained Army leaders belonged to the hawiye, Isaaq, and the reer Xamars.

He (Mohamed farah Aidid) writes in one of the book he co-authored with Satya Pal Ruhela titled "Somalia: From the Drawn of Civilization to the Modern Times." The following "....Soon follow up action started. General Daud abdulla (a hawiya) was appointed as chief of the Army. Mohammed Siad barre become Chief of Staff of Armed Forces, and Mohammed Absher was appointed as Chief of the Police. We were really surprised to see a police Officer, Mohamed Siad Barre, without any military training , appointed as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces."[1]


Chapter 14, Mohammed Farah Aidid writes and explains the Moronic actions of the late President and Defence Minister Samater. "... In 1976 Siad barre decided to attack Ethiopia in order to be considered as a great nationalist - hero of Somalia and strengthen his shaking position in the country." /"On 6 March 1978, all the Chief of the fronts - Dirdawa front, Jigjigga front, Ahesna Gore front, Bibille front, Herer front, Bay front and Negile front were given a written but unsigned order from the Cheif of the Staff of Somali Armed Forces Brig. Gen. Mohamed Galle, asking them to withdraw from the captured western Somaliland (Ogaden) entirely.

This order had been sent to each chief of the front. Since I was then posted as chief of the Dirdawa front, I had also received it. I was also surprised to receive such an unsigned order. I later learned that it had not been signed because the President barre and Defence Minister Samater were at that time having a meeting in wardere, and instructions had been given by Siad barre to the Chief of staff on radio, but the letter was afraid of signing such an order.

This was a very stupid action. He could not and Should not have sent it to the chiefs at the war front. However,the chiefs of the front understood the situation individually and they executed it. They started retreating. By the end of March, 1978, the withdrawal from most parts of the front had been completed except from the Dirdawa front where I was the chief of the Somali Forces, since I had refused to accept such a humiliating and unwise Unsigned order.

On receiving it I immediately telexed to the President and Defence Minister expressing my disagreement with the order and made my counter proposal for not withdrawing at this time. They approved it. I attacked the enemy forces with seven reinforced Brigades. We had captured the railway. We had been holding our strong position between Dirdawa (where the railway had been blown up) and keeping this with all our might, lest the ethiopians should attack us. My forces were also holding the region of Hedegalo near the border. We distracted the enemy at the near side. The Russian experts had known me since the time they had worked with me in Somalia. They knew that I was on the front and so they changed their Idea. I delayed their attack. In 24 days (between 6 and 30 march, 1978) the forces of other front covered 300 kms. in withdrawal."[1]

He goes on to bash and again and again Mohamed siad barre actions.

Somalia: From the dawn of civilization to the Modern times? I think- you talking about the article "Somalia: From the dawn of civilization to the Modern times" on the net. He (Mohammed Faraj Aidid) list the Illiterate and Semi-Literates rulers of Somalia (1969-1990).
