Stuck in a Cave

No this isn't a thread about Bin Laden, but rather a hypothetical situation which I would be interested to hear peoples opinions on.

Lets imagine a group of people are trapped somewhere, let's say a cave. Now let's assume that they know when they'll be rescued (how they know this doesn't matter for the purpose of this scenario)
They also know there is no chance of an earlier rescue.
The group have some supplies (food and water) but there is no way it will sustain them all until they are freed. If the supplies are shared equally they will all die before being rescued.

If in the group what would you do? Accept your fate as a group? Fight for the supplies? Agree to give your share to someone else?

(Before someone suggests killing one of the group and eating them, remember dehydration would cause death well before starvation so this isn't really an option)

At first i was more or less thinking about "survival of the fittest", that the ones who are strongest should be given the food and the water as the weaker ones would not be able to survive anyway. But then i changed my mind, thinking that if the weaker ones got the supplies of food and water they would stand a better chance of surviving. The stronger people would have to give their share to the weak ones, as they have a better chance of surviving with or without too much food.

So, give the food to those who are the weakest and if there's anything left give it to the strongest.

Well it depends on what kind of Group I am in! If I am among my family, then I would share it with my parents first! I wouldn't share it with kids, I mean they're younger and don't have as much sins as I do. So I need to live and survive to repent my sins!

Wow you raised a very interesting scenario!! Personally, I don't really know what I would do. People usually conform under certain pressures when in a situation such as that, so I guess at first I'd be trying to share but later on I'd probably end up fending for myself.

Truth is most people would do this whether they want to or not. If you asked me right now, I would probably say I would give away my part but if I was really in that cave, I would be making the first blow to someone's head.
