Meles' Ethiopia becoming Mugabe's Zimbabwe

While Mugabe blames his country's economic woes on the west and phantom sanctions that do not exist, in truth his country suffers under the burden of the economic drain of the Second Congo War, which cost Zimbabwe more than 10 times its GDP and the loan repayments alone are destroying the country.

Mugabe's family has hundreds of millions of dollars tied up in business interests with the DRC ruling dynasty, and decided to bankrupt his nation to save his business interests there.

Meles is doing the same to Ethiopia in order to hang on to his own golden goose, the vast oil deposits in Ogaden to which he and his cronies have exclusive rights, provided he can crush the ONLF and the UIC who support them.

That's what it's all really about folks. It all comes back to the Ogaden and China's oil drilling there. The UIC, Shabab, ONLF and especially Hassan Turki all stand in the way.

And so like Mugabe, he has hidden the true cost of his war in Somalia, which costs him a quarter of his nation's GDP a month and is causing increasingly evident hyperinflation and economic meltdown in Ethiopia. No matter the cost though, it will not be Meles that has to pay for the devastating loans he is taking out every month to the IMF, World Bank and China, who are all going to own Ethiopia in a few years.

He will walk into the sunset with a suitcase of money and a retirement villa in Switzerland.

By the way, it goes without saying that, should Ethiopia succeed in cementing the TFG in power, Somalia's oil will also belong to Meles and his cronies, and Somalia will be expected to pay the cost of the war, like Weimar Germany.

Before you defend Robert Gabriel Mugabe, I suggest you read up on his involvement in the Second Congo War, and what he did to the other great anti-colonialist movement in Zimbabwe, ZAPU, after he came to power.

He is a hero of the anti-colonialist movement, but he has been a terrible ruler of Zimbabwe, indulging in all the petty abuses of power available to his station.

Both men are of a similar mold actually, both overthrew monstrous and brutal regimes and promised a bright future of democracy, freedom and equality for all people and nations, and initially they delivered on their promises, but eventually have both morphed into something resembling what they overthrew.

Ethiopia is currently in the "mid 2nd Congo War" phase, where it should be obvious to everyone that things are seriously wrong, but the administration manages to brush it all under the carpet and institute and information vacuum.

* Inflation at 100%
* Daily power outages
* Regular telecommunications failures
* "Crop failures"
* "Instability" in Oromia and Ogaden

The inflation, telecommunications and power failures are caused by Ethiopia spending all its hard currency on military hardware and supplies, and making loan repayments, and therefore internationally provided services (telecommunications, power) have to be underfunded, and Birr printed to make up for the shortfall thus cutting the value of the Birr.

On the top of 474 Million dollar it recieved from the US in 2007, if it is doing that bad it is in trouble.

What do you about the 15 million people who might be on the brink of starvation, mostly ethinic Somalis? Do you think there might be some sinister demographic issues going on?

Meles knows the only way out is oil riches, as the path he is on right now leads only one place and that place is where Zimbabwe is now.

Somalis are in the way of the oil riches so the Somalis must all die for the good of Ethiopia, that is the calculus at work.

Mugabe hurt the interests of Anglo-Saxons by giving the wealth of his country to his fellow people. AFAIK, Mugabe didn't hurt Muslims, and that's what counts.

As long as brutes like them are propped up by the great Shaydan U.S, nothing can, or will, change. Believe, the U.S has it's sites set on that Sweet Crude, so they will back Midget's power play ALL the way.

As a sidenote, it isn't surprising they're still in power, when you witness the mentalities exhibited here as an example. Look at the comments of the idiot above me, or those of Shirib. Mind boggling.

And another thing. It's sad when you realize that a GREAT thread topic like this one would have at one time instigated great debate here in these forums. No longer.

James, Somalis wherever they are in Somalia, Ogadenia, Kenya, and even in the West are dis-united and anyone can take advantage of them. In the West there are Somali organisations based on tribe. One Mayor was asked why his City doesnt help Somalis. He replied, I can't support tribal organisations who hate each other, give me a genuine inclussive (all tribes) Somali organisation and then judge me. As long as ONLF are fighting for a tribal identity-cause, their fate is sealed. Read the post by Kenyan4life.

Second, you are towing the Western media line about Mugabe, that is sponsored by powerful corporations. It is true that Mugabe should have resigned long ago, and kept Zimbabwe moving. But ask yourself, how does the situation of Zimbabwe deteriorate to this level? Simple answer, there is a war between the old warriors and a new breed of African politicians supported by Western corporations who will like to open all markets to the advantages of these corporations. Morgan Shangrai is backed by powerful corporations and is supported by urban Zimbabweans who want change and all the trappings of the West, while the countryside-regional zimbabweans supported Mugabe. These corporations intend to bring economic rationalism based on open markets and blind free trade and not fair trade to every corner of the globe just like Georgia. Who does it advantage? Africans or large Western Multi national Corporations? What is wrong with Mugabe nationalising farms and giving it back to their rightful owners?

Margaret Thatcher and the Labor Party signed and agreed to fund land distribution in Zimbabwe, but why did they renage to their promise? Don't believe in the self-interested corporations spinning their side of the story. Many African leaders oppose to this method of globalisation and support Mugabe, not because they like him, but they don't like the bigger evil=globalisation. It is a not a level playing field.

Wrong, Zenawi recieves over $ 400 million non-humanatarian aid from the west, mainly for his decisive role in the war on terror in Somalia. He doesn't spend one dime in his help of, or partnership with, the TFG. Ethiopia has been a big party to the Somalia's conflict just like Syria is in Lebanon.

Wars are very expensive things, I don't think you realize quite how expensive. $400 million is nothing compared to what he has spent on the war.

The expropriated farms were given in whole blocks to Mugabe's cronies. The British stopped the payments when it became clear the people of Zimbabwe weren't going to get zip. :down:
