Manstein's tactical focus for his life had always been the war with France and the failure of WWI, but in the east his strategy proved a long term disaster as the German forces, attempting to blitz over a front stretching over thousands of kilometers, ended up massively overextended and were crushed by the Soviet counteroffensive in 1941 at Stalingrad.

This is one of the greatest warrior the germans ever produced , loved by his men and respected by his enemy .

this has to be the most confusing and ignorant shid i've read in this dump so far. :? :?

james dahl, you're not a white boy; somalika tahay wass!

this not somali history where you can make-up shid; very well known elements are involved. 8)

WTH is this suppose to mean:
Manstein's tactical focus for his life had always been the war with France and the failure of WWI...
:?: :?: :? :?

in france - where he had a strategy input from the get-go unlike in the eastern front - he's the reason why germany had such an easy, complete and brilliant victory!
but in the east his strategy proved a long term disaster as the German forces, attempting to blitz over a front stretching over thousands of kilometers, ended up massively overextended and were crushed by the Soviet counteroffensive in 1941 at Stalingrad
first of all, he was not part the of overall or any of the strategy planning of oparation barbarossa; he was given his first panzer corps (56) and then an army (11th) where he achieved incrible and complete victories; first, (panzer corps) advanced an incredible distance in a short time and in the process capturing important bridges; secondly, (11th army) securing the entire army group south's left flank and the capture of sevastopol, clearing any russian present in the area.

secondly, he's not the reason why german forces were crushed in stalingrad; it was the fault hitler and the commander of the 6th army, paulus, goring, etc. when he toke command of the newly formed don army group - a poorly assembled army group - to rescue 6th army - who got encircled because hitler didn't want do a strategic withdrawal - all his strategy recommendations were not implemented (because of hitler, goring and paulus, etc); if they were, the 6th army would have been successfully rescued.

and finally, he, rightly, recognized that the german front was too long to be defended/not enough forces to do it. he wanted to fight an elastic war - shore up the front; give/take land; then encircle the enemy and destroy it - again, hitler refused. whenever hitler would agree with the strategy recommendations of manstein - which would always be too later, anyhoo - the germans always succeeded, e.g. operation citadel.

p.s. i made this post to show how great the germans are - OUR UBERMENSCH  - not a manstein or.... discussions....
