Toll rises after Somalia bus shootings
AFP - Sunday, August 17
MOGADISHU (AFP) - - At least 39 people have been killed in recent incidents involving Ethiopian troops in Somalia, hospital sources and witnesses said Saturday.

Ethiopian forces opened fire on two minibuses near the Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday, killing at least 30 passengers.
Ten people injured in the shooting were taken to hospital where three of them later died of their injuries, said doctor Abdulahi Fiqi.
The bodies of six more people were found on Saturday in another area near the capital.
"We have recovered four bodies this morning from one spot and two more from another.... These were civilians who were killed yesterday (Friday) afternoon by the Ethiopian troops," witness Abdifatah Abdan Yussuf told AFP.
The circumstances in which they died was not clear. Some witnesses alleged they were killed by Ethiopian forces after a clash with Islamist insurgents, while others said they were shot during fighting.
It was still not clear what prompted the Ethiopian troops -- in Somalia to prop up a fragile government under attack from Islamist forces -- to open fire on the minibuses.
The Ethiopians had come under attack three times on Friday, once by a roadside bomb and twice by gunfire from insurgents.
The Ethiopian army rolled into Somalia in late 2006 at the request of the embattled transitional government. They ousted an Islamist militia which controlled large parts of the Horn of Africa country.
The Islamists have since reverted to guerrilla warfare and have been targeting Somali government forces, Ethiopian troops and African Union peacekeepers almost daily.
