The Next Struggle: Expat Somalis Vs. Those Who Never Left
I wonder how those Somalis who never left Somalia will deal with those expats who return from overseas and try to run the country.
Will they allow it or stand up ?

They will allow it; because there will be nothing to return to if the Ethiopians and their puppets have their way

TL,
I dunno. Some of these people would be offended to see someone from overseas come over and tell them what to do.

The first step should be bridging the communicational gap. we don't have the same views, we don't even think the same way and definetely we dopn't want the same things. Plus as AW said, how do they perceive us -maybe cowrds who were pampered by the whiteman's luxury - whereas we see them (or some of us see them) as savages who need to be tamed, salvaged and steered away from the mess they put themselves into.

Ninka "degree" ka la yimaada qurbaha , tacliin iyo cashar kale oo farabadan baa u hadhsan , which is "local politics somali style" .I dunno. Some of these people would be offended to see someone from overseas come over and tell them what to do.
Anagu kuweena {politician-ka SL}, odaayasha sii jooga meesha ayaa dhallinyarta wax soo baratay gacan yare looga dhiga .

TL,
I know that fat dude. But saxiib, its the honeymoon period. Wait until he starts to implement changes and he will meet the hard headed Somalis.
SirLuugoyo:
Imagine trying to convince a bunch of Somalis NOT to cut down trees for firewood. They will be angered at your insenstivite to their plight. They are thinking in the shortterm (getting fuel and a few bucks) while your Western mind is thinking about the longterm drought, erosion etc.
Short of having a strong armed hand to break a few heads in, you won't succeed.
Miss Nalia,
They don't see the logic. A lot of the "leadership" is foreign based and gets its support from there. Only a handful have been local over the last 20 years and have their families living in country.

Re: The Next Struggle: Expat Somalis Vs. Those Who Never Left
That's exactly why IT IS NOT working .
The leadership has to be LOCAL , and politics at the grass roots level .
quote]What other choice do they have really?
Nobody has to follow anybody else , that's the problem with the somalis in general and the southerners in particular , they have a weird ,very weird concept and understanding of leadership.
YES people for one DO HAVE CHOICES.
It up to their leaders to not only put the people's interest first , but to also get everybody involved

I doubt many in my generation are thinking of going back anyways. And for those who are, well they will have a hard time adjusting to how things are done. There is going to be a huge communication, cultural gap and it will take years to bridge it.

Ismahan,
I had a horrible day at work the other day and contemplated just packing up and leaving. 2010 is my target date to move back to the continent.
I have heard great things about Gawan. Its a beautiful, cool highland escarpment 25 miles west of Hobyo and lacks mosquitoes.

Everyone in Somalia dislikes diaspora Somalis, They act like big shots when they visit the country, that's what everyone kept telling me when I was in Puntland this summer.AbdiWahab252 wrote:I wonder how those Somalis who never left Somalia will deal with those expats who return from overseas and try to run the country.

All the Puntland ministers are Americans, Canadians, Europeans. They don't give a shit about the country just profit from it in a short time and then run with their passport back to the diaspora after their term finishes.
