Definition of Sab

Post by dudido »

Hi everyone,

maybe this is the wrong place but lets give it a try. I have a couple of questions about the Sab:

What and who is a Sab?

Is one Sab since birth or can one become Sab because of an offense according to Xeer?

What means Boon?

Is the term Boon related to Sab? If so, what is the difference?

Do Sabs form clans (reer) or do they stand outside the clansystem or are they part of other regular clans?

Are ethnic minorities of Somalia considered Sab or not? If so, which?

Are Sab ethnically Somali?

Are Sab distributed all over the country, or do they inhabit certain regions?

Who are the Midgaan, Tumaal, Eeyle and Yibir? And where do these names come from and what do they mean?

What means Samaale?

What is the opposite of Sab?

Is the concept or status of Sab still alive since the war?

Are Sab treated differently nowadays than non-Sab? If so how?

Thanks for your time and effort. And please don't be offended by any of my questions.

Sabe and Samaale were the two original clans, from which all other clans descend (though some only by marriage).

Sab became a term for any Somali clan not descended from Samaale, so there are many groups such as the Baidari clans (Madhibaan, Yibir, etc) who are not descended from Sabe but are considered Sabe by Samaale clans. Sabe do not consider Baidari to be Sabe.

The people referred to as Sab in the north are not Sabe, but rather Baidari, after their common patriarch. They are descended ultimately from Boonta, a king of old and founder of the Kingdom of Boonta, known to the Egyptians as Punt. Oromo elders have many stories about Boonta, though in Oromo it is pronounced "Biyya Boontu" the land of Boontu, and it's chief cities Aftal, known today as Zeila, Malao which today is called Berbera, and Hargeisa it's capital.

The last king of Boonta was Muhammed ibn Hanif Bur Ba'ayr who was defeated by Yussuf al-Kawnayn Aw Barqadle in the 12th century, legend has it by entrapping him in a mountain. Yussuf went on to found the Sultanate of Zeila and his descendants went on to conquer the Sultanate of Shoa and rule both the Sultanate of Ifat and it's successors the Sultanate of Adal and Sultanate of Harar and the Afar Sultanate.

The royal dynasty of Boonta is known today as the Yibir, while the largest clan of Boonta was the Madhibaan.

BOON=midgaans=jaberti=darood
they are midgaans (the pure somalis did not exsept them) so in attemt 2 make them selves an midgaan they come up whit sad and say we are from pure people like samali(somalis)

samaali=(somalis) this group is pure somalis and every pure clan trias there ancester two king samaali.
there are the pure and only somalis
