Moreover, whatever action is taken on the seas will prove to be inadequate because the root of the problem of piracy on the high seas stems from dry land. It was rare before the fall of the Barre regime in 1991 and during the short rule of the Union of Islamic Courts in 2006, because there was a measure of law and order. But Somalia has become a haven for pirates because the present government can't even control the capital, let alone the country

I watched an exclusive report on Al-jazeera channel, It was a real eye opener.
They said, the Pirates have 12 cruisers, with each cruiser having four Volvo motors. Each boat has a technical on top of it. Just to give you an idea how fast these boats are, they can travel from Kismayo to Bossaso in just 5 hours
Guess how much each boat cost? a freaking $600,000.
Now, aljazeera talked about an interesting point. They said the pirates hijack boats while the Americans just stones throw awat. When the American ship and Pirates run into each other, they just greet each other.
Apparently, the USA gave them the green light to do whatever they like to do. Yo'll remember when the Pirates fought with a North Korean boat last year, the Pirates ended up defeating them, but the USA were there and they just helped the North Korean victims treat their wonds.
They also pointed out that, Adde Musse and Hassan Abshir are the guys who are behind it, and actually spent over 6 million for these state of the art cruisers
