Has Your Local Somali Masjid
Done any fundraising for the Somali people displaced from their homes ?
I have a friend of mine who goes to a NonSomali masjid which has several Somalis who pray there. The Imam suggested that the congregation do some fundraising for the Somali displaced people but this Somali guy stood against the idea saying it was a political conflict and fundraising would not be a good idea.

Yep. We did it last year, it went very well.
Also, Sheikhs like Umal & others in N. America have raised thousands of dollars for displaced refugees through a telephone network they created. A lady in MN rented a shipping container and I heard it was filled with clothes and other stuff then shipped to Somalia like 2 months ago.

AW,
They've a serious illness. 90% of the displaced people are women & children, where does qabiil fit in to this equation? Whatever money a person donates will help a Muslim, that should be the bottom line. I've donated to non-Somali causes before, as long as its a Muslim in need, its all good.
About a month ago, a group of women from our Masjid raised funds for Drs. Hawa Abdi's refugee center outside of Xamar and I heard when they were going around Somali apartments, some people were yelling "Why should I donate anything to those who chased me out of my own home?"

Kolombo,
This person stood in the way of an effort by a NonSomali wadaad to help out.
That is the part that baffles me.

Re: Has Your Local Somali Masjid
Qabyaalad can make a person do things he/she would normally shy away from. People like that lack basic akhlaaq. I see grown men laughing at displaced refugees proclaiming "They're getting a taste of their own medicine..." What medicine? A large number of the refugees are jareer and others, who have they ever harmed? And even the Hawiye refugees, when did women & children harm anyone?
Your mortal enemy=akhwaans are the ones that are for the most part trying to help those people, I yet have to see a single Sufi Masjid raise any funds or even talk about issues like that.

Alxamdulilah, our Masjid Ibnu-Taymiya did two fundraisers this past weekend before Ramadan. One of the collections was for a local person who wanted help. May Allah help those indeed!! Also, as usual every Ramadan and throughout the year, Masjid officials do collect money and we did have many generous people to donate, May Allah reward them all and grant them Jannah. Amiin

Kolombo,
We have done some efforts too. I don't deny the Akhwan efforts when it comes to humanitarian projects, again between their active organizations and Petrodollars who can compete. Again, as long as people are being helped out, I don't mind at all. When its being used for politics, I oppose it.
Cisse Westlake,
I know. I went to a visit out of town and was told to meet someone at the Qabiil X masjid.

AbdiWahab252,
in 2007 my non-somali masjid raised $36,000 and sent can food and medicines for somali refugees. most of them were pakistani and african american muslims who were involved in this fundraiser. some somalis at the mosque did not want to get involved for the same reasons you cited.

Re: Has Your Local Somali Masjid
well ever since the qabiil endorsed money laundering fiasco that happened at Khalid Bin Waliid Mosque right here in T.dot. i decided NEVER to donate money through "somali" charitable organizations. sorry, they lost my vote of confidence. somalis will never agree on anything, they cannot free qabiil hatred from their hearts. they cannot even run a mosque without practicing sickening qabyalad, so what of entrusting them to properly allocated large sum of money to its appropriate dispensation..
I simply donate my money to Islamic Relief who at the time of the Ethiopian invasion, were the only aid organization that was on ground helping people.
