Job Reference

Urgent!

I need to hand in a job reference from my current job to my potentially new job.
They've asked me to bring in a job reference which is exactly what i've told my current job.
They in turn have asked me to list exactly what i need on the reference and they will do so, now my question is, what should i tell them to list on the reference.

Give me some quick brainstorms guys.

Dumbo's excluded (Emperior, Goljano, Nacaas77, Munique, surrender, siren etc) and the unemployed.

i assume the job you're applying for is similar to the one you have? what about your current job description, your responsibilities etc. that should give you an idea...

i thought a job reference was based on your performance and that you wouldn't actually have any input into it. it's up to your team leader/section head etc to write it.

A reference should list:

1. When you worked for them, the job function you did.

2. If this is the job you got fired from and got fired for nonperformance, then you are asking for a lot for them to recommend you using the terms you described.


I would have approached it at another angle and got a reference from a colleague I worked with and was friendly with.

Madd scientist, if you're close with the people you work for, they are willing to take up any extra lengths if that will benefit you.
The literatlly asked me to outline exactly what i want and they would sort it out.

Oh, CaliGab,

In that case, the former employer is being nice to you to ask what they should reference in your reference.

I also would include:

1. Team player
2. Performed well and delivered on deadlines
3. Took on additional responsibilities
4. I would also highlight any significant accomplishments you managed to do: any special project you succeeded at.

I would also suggest you give them a copy of your CV & job description of the position you were employed in.
