Having the emotion of regret.

Post by Oxy- »

Regret an intelligent (and/or emotional) dislike for personal past acts and behaviors. Regret is often felt when someone feels sadness, shame, embarrassment or guilt after committing an action or actions that the person later wishes that he or she had not done.

But don't you think regret is sorta pointless, when you think about the fact that its already happened and obviously you cant change the past.

My question 2u is, How often do you regret things, and how do you view this emotion?

I regret when I go through a shopping binge. I'll buy like $500 worth of clothes in 1 hour. I'll go home with the bags, stare at it for a while and think...shiit i shouldnt have done that  ....
but I forget about it when i start hanging them.

As formy view on regret. I think its a valid feeling. If regret leads you to change a lifestyle that is not worth while, then I think its important. But if your regretting something and doing it over and over again, it looses any significance .

I do regret some stuff but they are usually things that wont effect my life dramatically or in the long term (as in I shouldnt have procrastinated with that assignment). I hope and pray that I wont do something that I will live to regret for the rest of my life.

^regretting just shows that you have feeling and alah does always forgive the person who regrets about their actions.
i always regret trusting people. i easily do, because im the kind of person u can trust. u can tell me things, and i will never tell. if my life depends. therefore i trust people in hand. but never goes well.

Regret is never pointless, it's the prized emotion that makes you feel aware of a past wrong. Without regret, you would not learn. Regret arms you and if you play your cards right, makes you a better person tomorrow.

well said, Starscream.

Feeling remorse and/or regret is also a prerequisite for sincere repentance.

I went on a shopping spree today, and I do regret it now. :|

Gifted:- I probably won't regret it once I try on my new clothes  but I was thinking to myself, "Subhanallah, how can you spend so much money in one day on clothes, when some people have nothing to eat"? :|

 Firefly and Ismahan, shopping is a necessity, why the regrets? Although, I do feel guilty when I overdue it but that feeling goes away quickly.

One of the best advice i was ever given was once, my older sister adviced me not to regret the past. She said it in a poignant way, that really struck a cord in me. She simply-dismissed regretting the past by stating you can't change what happened. The best u can do is, accept, learn from it and move on. Basically, eliminating the worries that comes with regret emotions. We regret because we are conscientious. We are humans. Regrets is also directly linked to Imaan. The more u regret, the more u have hope for a better imaan. Now--having said that-- i would like to point out to ms nalia & Gifted that I DONT regret spending $ 300.00 at gap this weekend! :x
