Al Shabaab, a force unseen in Somalia's modern history.

Just think about it.
These guys control everything south of Gaalkacyo, drove the Ethiopians out of Beled-Weyne, have a tight grip on the Jubba Valley including Gedo region, are the ultimate force in Mogadishu, and have the balls and power to shut down Mogadishu International airport right under the combined noses of Ethiopia, TFG, and Ugandan-Amisom troops. They have control the control Kismaayo with an iron fist, are positioned as deep as Ceel-Waaq, Buulo-Burte, and Cadaado, and have still not been scratched by a multi-national effort aimed to get rid of them with thousands of foreign troops, massive intelligence gathering, and millions worth of arms bought just for use on them.
The wadaado are the single most powerful lobby group in the former Somali Democratic Republic and will be so ever since they crossed the absoloute threshold of 2006, when they swiftly expelled the infamours warlords of Mogadishu and seized everything from Gaalkacyo to Dhoobley.
Al Shabaab, a force unseen in Somalia's modern history.
And they know it, hence the unbridled confidence.

You know better then I Alshabaab was the military wing of UIC. Men like Fuaad Shangole, Cayroow, Xassan Turki, Abu-Mansuur, Abu Cuteyba (deceased) were even before the Ethiopian invasion the leaders of the UIC military and since then when the real power showed itself, the credit has been only to them.
UIC languishes in Asmara and Djibouti.
UIC became separate from Al Shabaab when they jumped ship and crossed borders fleeing while today's Al Shabaab withdrew to the interior.
It is Al Shabaab which has brought honor on the name of the resistance.

They're a force, but I'm wondering how are they going to rule? How are they going to build the basic institutions and structures for a society that hasn't had them in 20 years plus.

Alshabaab's resistance should be welcomed by all somalis. What i dont like about them is their takfeeri ideology. Cant they not differentiate the enemies from the allies/friends?
I quite supporting alshabaab fully 100% until the leadership is giving to someone else (more friendly to the allies).

Al-Shabaab cannot be viewed as JUST a military organization!
Who reopened Kismayo's airport? Who renamed it? Boogie men? No.
Al-Shabaab is not fighting for sport. They have goals, you know.
Now, we all know that every mosque/community center and every primary school in Somalia was the work of the wadaads. NGOs don't build religious institutions as you know, and diaspora are too busy building hotels, brothels, and aiding warlords to care about mosques. Its the wadaado who kept Somalia from completely falling off the map.
Just as they reopened and christened Kismayo's airport, they will soon open the seaport, and as they did for Xamar once before, they'll also do the same magic for its airports and seaports - you DO know that the airport that Al-Shabaab recently threatened to close down was reopened by THEM in the first place.
But Voltage is correct. For the first time since god-knows-when, probably Ahmed Gurey's era, religious clerics in Somalia have gotten a taste of power. And they won't let it go easily.

Same way they did
Back in 06, but this
Time I hope they won't impose harsh
Restrictions, yet I doubt it.
