BAIDOA, Somalia, Oct 9 (Reuters) - An unidentified aircraft bombed an Islamist rebel stronghold in central Somalia on Thursday, witnesses said, but it was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.

"A plane bombarded the outskirts of our village" said Hassan Maalim in Goobgudud, 30 km (18 miles) southwest of Baidoa. "The whole earth shook but we don't know the damage or death it caused. It was flying over us since morning."

Goobgudud is a stronghold of al Shabaab insurgents who have been fighting Somalia's fragile U.N.-backed interim government and its Ethiopian military allies since the start of last year.

There was no immediate word on which aircraft might have carried out Thursday's attack, but U.S. military forces have launched several airstrikes inside Somalia in recent months.

Washington says al Shabaab has links to al Qaeda and says it has provided a safe haven for militants including the suspected bombers of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. (Writing by Daniel Wallis, editing by Philippa Fletcher)

Wallahi, I never supported Shabaab cause Abu Mansuur was Leysaan, never was qabiil my decision.

Now I read ur article. If Abu Mansuur is in Xamar, who the hell were they targeting in the airplane attacks?

The 1st President of SYL was D&M not many know that, it was surprising to me, I thought I might have shared it with these lamagoodle's. What wrong with that?
