I like and admire writers..the time and the effort they put is just above my pay grade. But I can read.

use http://www.Guru.com if you want to do freelance writing and get paid for it. it could be somewhat competitive so try to keep that in mind, i normally get responses from 40 to 60 people for an IT related project so don't be discouraged by the overwhelming responses to a simple Ad. also, another good site that i frequently use is http://www.odesk.com so check it out.

Yes, freelance usually pays ok, you just need to build up your credibility

I did some freelance writing for a Reuters journalist in the early 1990s on Somali politics. I used to get paid $50 per article of news which he would pawn off as his own after making his edits.

U need to find a niche that is not being addressed. I would recommend starting off with smaller community papers or volunteering for nonprofits in their communications office.
