According to some Somalis, reggae music, mainly the beat is stolen from Somali Music...dhaanto to be precise. I think it was a video of that somali artist Sulfa (i think i got his name right) talking about how when they were send abroad by the Somali government as student in the west to learn how to write music, they heard of this strange thing that somehow sounded familiar. After carefuly listening to the music they came to the conclusion that Raggae Music Is Stolen From Somalia.
So what do you guys think? Is there any truth if not doesnt dhaanto sound a tad similar to dhaanto?

Re: Question about reggae music And Somali...
Raggae music has been around since the 60s , so when did the Jamaicans see those somali fanaans in order for them to steal it??
Re: Question about reggae music And Somali...
I think the closest thing to raggae music in the 60's was that song 'Israelite' by Desmond Decker and that was in 68.
So, maybe you should ask yourself how long has the dhaanto been around?...probably couple of decades before the raggae music would be a safe bet.
