Somalia stun lacklustre Tanzania: BBC
Somalia pulled off a sensational upset at the East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup (Cecafa) on Saturday when they beat Tanzania 1-0.
Somalia, playing their second game in two years, won the Group A match in Kampala thanks to a first half strike by Cisse Abshir.
Taifa Stars, who are using the tournament to prepare for next month's African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the Ivory Coast, were tipped to win the game.
But Abshir's 14th minute effort sealed victory even though Somalia needed resolute defending after the interval to secure the win.
Tanzania's best opportunity fell to striker Danny Mrwanda on 62 minutes but the Kuwaiti-based forward fluffed the chance.
Taifa Stars' Brazilian coach Marcio Maximo was disappointed with his side's display inisisting that Somalia deserved the win.
"Somalia played wonderfully well and it is no surprise that they were rewarded with victory," Maximo said.
Meanwhile, less-fancied Zanzibar held Uganda to a 0-0 draw in the group's other game on Saturday.
Tanzania must win their next match against Zanzibar on Monday to keep alive their hopes of reaching the next stage.
Somalia will take on Rwanda on the same day.
Two matches will be played in Group B on Sunday at the Bugembe stadium in Jinja District.
Group favourites Zambia take on Burundi while Djibouti face Sudan.
