Saudi Man Divorces Wife Using Mall Microphone!

A Saudi man suddenly grabbed a microphone at a shopping mall to announce he is divorcing his wife, in front of their three children and hundreds of shoppers, in response to what he believed was an act of flirting by his wife towards a stranger.

After the family entered the mall, the husband left his wife and children to go shopping. A young man then approached the wife and gave her a piece of paper with his phone number on it. The wife took it and put it in her purse, Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh reported Monday.

The husband, who happened to see this take place, stormed over to his wife and asked to see her purse. When she refused, he grabbed it by force and saw the other man's number.

The husband then approached a cashier and asked to use the microphone. His voice was heard all over the mall saying: "To all those present and all the shoppers. Please listen to me. I want you to bear witness to what I say."

A Saudi man divorced his wife for watching alone a television programme presented by a male, an act he deemed immoral, the Al Shams newspaper reported on Saturday. The man, whom the paper did not identify, ended his marriage on the grounds his wife was effectively alone with an unrelated man, which is forbidden under the strict Islamic law enforced in the ultra-conservative kingdom, the paper said. Men in Saudi Arabia have the authority to divorce their wives without resort to the courts.
