Abdiwahab Jimale, 46, faces up to 70 years in jail if convicted of seven counts of incest and one charge of child solicitation.

His alleged victim told police she was abused from the age of 10, according to court records in the US state of Indiana.

She had been living with an aunt since the age of four after the half-siblings' mother died in 1982 in wartorn Somalia.

Abdiwahab, a maintenance worker for the Fort Wayne Parks Department, then petitioned a court to gain custody of his half-sister.

The girl was initially physically abused by Abdiwahab's then-wife, the court records claimed.

Then in February 1992, after the couple had divorced, Abdiwahab allegedly began having sexual relations with his half-sister.

The adoptive father of the first child consented to a DNA test last month which confirmed the boy, now in his teens, is the son of Abdiwahab and his half-sister.

The abuse is said to have continued until at least June 2007.

The victim told police the reason it had taken her so long to report the situation was because her half-brother had introduced her to sex at a young age and she did not consider it wrong.

"She now realises that what happened was wrong and that having children with her half-brother was not an ethical or legal thing to do," a police affidavit stated.
