Al Shabaab Ain't Playing 11 AU Peacekeepers Killed!!!
MOGADISHU, Somalia (Reuters) — Islamist insurgents killed 11 Burundian soldiers in Mogadishu on Sunday in the deadliest attack on the African Union peacekeeping force there.
The African Union said a compound housing troops from Burundi had come under mortar fire. Islamist insurgents said two suicide bombers, one in a car packed with explosives, had carried out the attacks.
“These attacks have reached today an unprecedented level, resulting in the killing of 11 Burundian soldiers, while 15 others have sustained serious injuries,” the African Union said in a statement.
The Shabab, one of the Islamist militias battling for control of Somalia, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Somalia has been plagued by conflict for the past 18 years, and Islamist insurgents have been fighting a weak central government for more than two years. More than 16,000 civilians have been killed since the start of 2007 and one million uprooted from their homes.
While some Islamist groups have recently pledged to support the new administration led by President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, a moderate Islamist, the hard-line Shabab has vowed to fight on and wants foreign peacekeepers to leave.
Somalia’s new internal security minister, Omar Hashi Aden, said the government wanted the 3,500 peacekeepers to stay and would “respond very quickly to this cruel attack.”
The attack occurred on Sunday morning, when a loud explosion shook the African Union compound. Witnesses said they had seen a car speeding toward the gate and then heard a blast and saw plumes of smoke.
The Shabab’s spokesman, Sheik Muktar Robow Mansoor, said that a suicide bomber wearing a jacket with explosives had detonated his charge near the peacekeepers’ compound and that another in a car had set off his device at the gate.
But Maj. Barigye Ba-Hoku, spokesman for the African Union force in Mogadishu, denied that a suicide bombing had taken place.
The African Union said its troops had been under intense mortar fire since last Tuesday.

I think this was a direct response to AU rejecting the clerics proposal to withdrawal their troops within 120 days.
AU Somali mission rejects withdrawal calls
The African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia has rejected clerics' proposal for the withdrawal of foreign troops within 120 days.
Maj. Barigiye Bahoku, spokesman for the AMISOM forces in Mogadishu, said Saturday that the calls were unreasonable since the newly-formed unity government would be in need of support, a Press TV correspondent reported.
"AMISOM troops will be sent back to their countries once the country is stable. But not now," Bahoku said.
However, the spokesman urged the militants to heed Somali clerics' calls for a stop to the attack against the peacekeepers in the capital of Mogadishu.

Why kill the au?? they were brought into the country on legal terms, unlike the ethiopian forces who violated the territorial integrity of somalia. These au forces havent' done anything wrong. I admire al shabab for their bravery against the ethiopians but this is uncalled for.
Re: Al Shabaab Ain't Playing 11 AU Peacekeepers Killed!!!
They weren't brought into the country on "legal terms." Somalis didn't ask for those AU troops. And the UN isn't a legal authority. Every year, the UN gives the US "legal terms" to continue occupying and colonizing Iraq & Afghanistan. The UN maintains arms/weapons sanctions and embargoes against Palestine, while Israel can import any arms/weapons. The UN maintains harsh economic sanctions and embargoes against Zimbabwe, sanctions and embargoes that have led to the total collapse of Zimbabwe's economy. The UN is after arresting Omar al-Bashir on the basis of the "genocide" in Darfur, while it's mum about arresting George Bush who caused the death of more than 1 million Iraqis. Duh, "legal terms."Siciid85 wrote:Why kill the au?? they were brought into the country on legal terms, unlike the ethiopian forces who violated the territorial integrity of somalia. Two Muslims blew themselves up to kill 11 brain-dead Africans, was it worth it? Which is more valuable; the lives of Muslims or those of a few kuffaar? Al-shabaab rather than focusing on the Ethiopian army in Xudur are instead opting for suicide missions in Xamar, why not go and confront the enemy face on and die a mujaahid the way the Prophet (saw) & his companions used to?

It is Al Shabab position that all Soldier's regardless if they are ethiopian or not are their enemies, so i dont understand why you are suprised here. If Al Shabab goes after the AU Force's than they are true to their position. Suicide is clearly harram but AU soldiers are fair game.Kolombo wrote:Two Muslims blew themselves up to kill 11 brain-dead Africans, was it worth it?
