Giving Back To Your Community

Giving Back To Your Community

I never got that concept. What obligation do you have to give back to your community ? What is defined as your community ? Is it where you live ? Or your religious group ? Maybe your qawiil ?

which community? is there a somali or tribal community? somali kids r pressured 2 b academic oriented with the expectations of their parents, most fail and have no second options. they choose between gangs or suicide bombers an elevated of somali anarchism.

in somali culture and tribally accepted here a somali person who has a trade,be a plumber, builder, electrician or a technician is percieved as a " low caste tribe". it is all in the mind of a nomad.

aw - I see my neighbors and local community as my community.

about helping others - call it micro-socialism if u like but humans have been doing this since we came to this earth.
this guy gave away $60 million of his own money to his AND FORMER employees, and never said a word till the local newspaper found out. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politic ... 20298.html

I read some study which concluded ppl who make others happy live longer than the average person. The reason could not be proved scientifically since most of the brain and its functions is still a black box. I can't recall the paper... wanna live longer? open your wallet and help the poor if u can.

Admin,

Well put, but I find it corny when someone asks me to give back to my community which implies I took something from them.

You can only 'give back' to those who gave you something to begin with and who you place in that category is completely up to your way of thinking. Personally I believe you can simultaneously belong to multiple communities - I belong to my Somali community, to the Muslim community, to the African community, to the student community, to the working community, to my Borough, the London and even the British community.

Lakin an interesting question, how do you give back to the community? Is the first thing that came to your mind volunteering? Why is that? Who would have helped more, the one who volunteered his time to help distribute food to the poor or the one who started up a factory and provided livelihood for the poor?

u never get the concept of "giving back"? so does this mean you've never done anything for your local community?
