At least for now.

MOGADIHSU (Mareeg)—the spokesman of Hizbul Islam group Muse Abdi Arrale said they would take out their fighters from the fighting areas to allow the civilians to return to their homes.

Hawiye Traditional Elders said Sunday Hizbal Islam Islamist group agreed with them to take their fighters out from the fighting areas where they have been fighting with government forces and AU troops supporting the government.

Mohamed Hassan Haad

The chairman of Hawiye traditional elders, Mohamed Hassan Haad, said they were organizing peace rallies to celebrate for the peace and demonstrators will march through the streets where the insurgents and the government troops have been fighting.

At least 50 people were killed last week in the bloodiest clashes since the president, a moderate Islamist, was elected.

African Union peacekeepers, who are constantly under attack from Islamist insurgents, are the only foreign troops left in the country after Ethiopian soldiers pulled out last month.
It's a start, and it gives Sharif an opportunity to make good on his promises.

Mogadishu was the last place where there was fighting. If there is peace in Mogadishu, then by extension there is peace in all of Somalia.

Thats the old days inadeer. Somalia oo dhan is not run from Mogadishu today. It is not the the Political Capital it once was. Garowe iyo Hargeysa are running more than half of the country and Al Shabaab is running the rest marka I don't see where Mogadishu fits in.

James, the leader of the Hisb today came out and said there is no peace with Shiekh Sharif and any member of the Hisb who promised such a thing does not have the power to do so. Peace will be a long time in the waiting in Somalia.

True, though perhaps this break in the fighting will allow the legislative actions and constitutional amendments required for peace to be achieved.

There are conflicting news.
Somali rebels reject ceasefire

Hizbul Islam, a coalition of groups fighting Somali government forces and African Union peacekeepers, has said it has rejected a ceasefire offer from Somalia's new president.

Muse Abdi Arale, a spokesman for the group, said on Sunday that reports of a ceasefire plan between his group and Somalia's government were "baseless," the AFP news agency reported.

"We will attack the enemy and their stooges anytime we want," Arale said.

Sharif Ahmed, the president of Somalia, announced on Saturday that he had agreed to proposals for a truce with the leading rebel group and had offered to accept the implementation of Sharia, or Islamic law, in the country.

"I met with religious leaders and elders and accepted their demand for ceasefire and reconciliation with the opposition members, and I call on all opposition parties to halt the unnecessary violence," Ahmed said.

Renewed fighting

Arale said his group had met with the mediators but only discussed plans for a partial withdrawal of rebel fighters.

Sunday's rejection comes a day after Omar Abdirahsid Sharmarke, the Somali prime minister, led the inaugural session of the new government in Mogadishu, Somalia's capital.

It also follows renewed heavy fighting in Mogadishu between opposition fighters and government and African Union forces.

At least 49 civilians were killed in the clashes in the capital, the independent Elman Human Rights Organisation has said.

Hizbul Islam is against the presence of AU troops in Somalia and has said it will battle them until they leave the country.

If Somali oo dhan fight these Islamic war-lords they will be history over night but that is not the case they have grass root support, they are not going to be destroyed easily. But if they dare head north we will cut their heads off.
