SINGLE(?) MOTHER (?) FORGETS (?) CHILD!!!

On the surface, this looks like a standard-issue case of an apparently single mother who made a mistake - a bad mistake, but nothing more (News4Jax, 2/23/09). Amanda Bozeman (pictured) says she stopped off at the Jacksonville Electrical Authority to get her power turned on. She claims she left her 3-year-old and 18-month old sleeping in her car. When she returned, she drove off, not noticing that the 3-year-old was no longer in the car. An hour later, he was found by passersby wandering and hysterical.

OK, that's her story, and maybe it's true. But if so, why did Selena Gardner, the woman who happened to spot the child and called 911 say "The child didn't even recognize her (Bozeman) when she came up"? And "we thought maybe somebody purposefully dumped him off." And "she had fake tears in her eyes."

And what's up with that 'cat-got-the-canary' smile on Bozeman's face in her mug shot? We've all seen dozens of police photos of people who've just been popped for some sort of alleged wrongdoing, and they mostly look like someone just hit them between the eyes with a 2 x 4. But not Bozeman.

We'll probably never know what happened, but this one smells fishy.

And of course, not a word about a father. The children are in the custody of grandparents.

Thanks to David for the heads-up.
