Which countries are headed down Somalia's path?

Some countries look like they are headed towards anarchy before New Year 2010.

Have you not been paying attention? Mexico has been a zoo now ever since Calderon declared war on the drug cartels. Thousands and thousands of police have been killed and the war is still going on. Obama's government took the biggest step in gun control in recent history when they banned import of automatic weapons to the U.S because 90% of the automatic weapons gun cartels use in the war in Mexico is from U.S.

No Cancun and cabo san lucas this spring break.

The drug cartels are no joke there...they're at the point where they're killing government soldiers. I read an article recently where one cartel (I think it was the Suarez Cartel) beheaded 7-8 soldiers and killed others, and left a note saying "for every one of ours u take, we will kill 10 of urs" in retaliation to a government raid that killed a member. The federal government here even issued a travel advisory warning to "Mehico"

Let us say the U.S media is completely ignoring Mexico because the events there are too close for comfort.

The mayor of Ciudad Juarez asked for amnesty last week in El Paso, Texas (more mayors are expected to run) and Mexican soldiers are turning themselves in for asylum daily. More then 10,000 cops have been killed and the government is nowhere close to finishing the cartels off.

The government is fighting for life because they either have to go down finishing these guys or they will lose legitimacy and expect all sorts of armed opposition and coups and belaayo to rise up sniffing blood.

Mexico's life hangs on defeating these guys and there is nothing U.S can do if the drug cartels are not defeated. Mexico aint far away Iraq and the drug cartels are placed into the U.S too. U.S will be drained too including with a million soldiers expect to stabilize an anarchic Mexico.

Naah it wont get to that level.

But the Drug cartel is getting mad craazy.....battle just erupts from nowhere and dozens of people lay dead, out of the blue man and also the ones who come to America, go deep into the woods and grow drugs in fields, I was watching it on one of the news channels last night and shid is getting out of hands, no wonder the red necks hate Mexicans so much.

I've heard about the Mexico stuff. Imagine all of those refugees heading North if the government collapsed there.

I think Pakistan is headed down Somalia's path just as much so, their civilian government is really weak.

Twisted Logic will come in here and defend the curryheads though and school us all.

The Cartels are not going down without a fight to the death....the drug trade in Mexico brings in over 15 billion dollars a year....they have guns the army probably doesn't even have

Pakistan and Somalia showed me why dictatorships are needed.

Along with the Palestinian territories where a "democratic" election picked Hamas, you will never heard democracy with regards to Muslim countries from the West again.

I mean how do you throw grenades, bombs, etc at another country's sports teams? How could civilians even have that? Pakistan has couple more months if a year.

Neither.

The battle in mexico is between drug dealers and the Mexican police. Somalia' collapsed because the government ceased on all levels. For Mexico to head down same path as we did, the drug cartells would have to take over the government or the government itself would have to split up, fat chance of that happening. The battle will rage on though.

Pakistan is more complex. It's nuclear armed nation. I don't think anyone would let Pakistan be destablized. Imagine those nukes falling into the hands of Osam bina Laden.

Iraq sounds like a better candidate to follow Somalia than Mexico despite the current anti drug sweep that is taking place south of the border. in fact, i'm not even sure if Mexico would be in the top 20 in a list of all countries that will most likely follow Somalia. remember, this is an isolated problem for Mexico, most of the country is fairly stable. Also, it's proximity to the United States is also an advantage as the US would never allow anarchy in a country so close and is an important partner in the region not only in business but politically.

Fah look at Singapore and Malaysia, two nations taken from third-word to up because of dictatorships. Mohamed Mahathir ruled for 22 years straight.

Screw, it is not isolated and the more the drug cartels hit, the more they will strike. This is a network from Argentina to Canada. They probably have heads of states under their control. We will see though.
