The Matchmaker!!!

Post by Navy9 »

What is the word for matchmaker in Somali?

Al khatba (arabic) is profession for middle aged woman/older women who hook up couple seeking marriage. The Khatba will sit down with men/women and get to know them very well on personal level and then try to find their mates. This method was used by urban/rural residents, both rich and poor classes. But nowadays since the internet pops up each second that passes single/marriage sites, this profession is being threatened to disappear.

I am wondering does our Somali culture know of the matchmaker?

If you were seeking to settle down, would you be interested to call a matchmaker?

Would you trust online matchmaking sites, Somali Singles for one?

Have you ever tried yourself to be a matchmaker? :P

Matchmaker is not a pimp and matchmakers do get paid for providing their services.

Abdi,

So what is the word for matchmaker in Somali? If my idea is implemented and you are not married by then, ofcourse I will take your application?

But I can tell you upfront, there is nothing common between a 40year old man and 19-21 year old woman.

Hyperactive,

How much khatba in your area charge?

Navy9,

I have no idea what Somali for matchmaker is besides, Eedo/Habaryar/Hooyo.

As for a woman, half my age, have you seen the cost of adult care homes ? Lets figure I am 60, she would be 40, when I am 80, she would be 60.

Abdi,

If you are afraid who will take care of you when you are old: you can do two things:

1) Raise good kids, teach them their religion and maks sure that you support them till they at least get their bachelors
2) Save money for your retirement so that you can live like a king in your old age.

but seeking a woman half of your age so that she can take care of your needs in your autumn years is not a good idea. If she take cares of you, who will take care of her (women do have needs too).

My dad raised us well and we are all taking care of him and he is the king of his village.
