We replaced our cariish in J-town with a Mosque (photos)

Post by paidmonk »

That little hut that I posted last year is now gone, in its place is a mosque. Total cost was $50,000. I don't know if it has been named yet.

We did a similar thing (not by choice) but with a dugsi instead of a Mosque.

They were most likely cleared for construction. My great grandfather didn't have the tools back then to clear trees, but the new construction crew did.

The photos of the cariish are not old, they're from 2006, just a year before it was torn down.

For $50,000 they couldn't give the mosque a better roof then a jiingad. :|

That's what I thought at first. But in places like Bosaso, a small two-bedroom house costs like $30-40k to build from what I heard, and that's if you go through quality builders like Hilaac or Mubaarak.

If 30-40k gets you a regular house, 50k should build a mosque that holds a hundred or more people, with the cheapest materials available.

Check out these villas built by Mubaarak that cost $45k, they're like 1/5th the size of the mosque.

One of the problems we have as Somalis is we clear all the trees when are building a new construction. That is wrong. Only those that can't be avoided should be cleared.

Mashaa Allaah indeed. I always encourage people to contribute to projects like these..Wells, schools, clinics, masjids... etc one shouldn't even think of which part of Somalia it is built...Again Masha Allaah.. This is sadaqatul Jaariya and it is a good investment in this world and Aakhira..

Paidmonk,

It looks like they brought in caro geduud to channel the water away from the madow foundation. (?)
What are the building materials and where did they come from? Almost looks like cinderblock.... Is any of that local?
