Boqol has reer Waqooyi accent? WTF, he sounded like a typical habargedir to me. Jubba also sounds somewhat reer mudug but I don't Seynab Labadhagax. I think the issue here is that many of you from the northwest region have this idea of everyone from the south sounding like they grew up in Shangaani.

I have met zaynab labadhagax. She is a good friend of my mom. She is dir from Sanaag. Sanaag is not uniform. Just because they don't sound like a person from hargeisa doesn't mean they are not from where they are.

BTW the standard somali is from Gobolada dheexe. Everything is a few standard deviation points away.

I thought you just said they sing in Waqooyi? I think you are a bit confused. These people sound like and sing like people from the regions they are from. It is just that you are not very familiar with all the accents spoken in Somalia and now you are puzzled because waxaad tahay qof dhaga xiran.

A lot of the singers may sound to you like they are singing in reer waqooyi accent but they are not. Some of them sing songs that were written by reer waqooyi writers so the words are just probably familiar to you since you are reer waqooyi like the writers.

The ppl from waqooyi or as we call them qaldaan and esp. those who have never been to Xamar just assume things they know nothing of.

Sainab laba dhagax, Jubba were born and brought up in Xamar, hence their af somali that sounds reer koonfur to you, but when it comes to singing..
There is no such thing as reer north type of singing or even language..except for minor details and words.. af somali is af somali..
And the most correct somali comes (as agreed upon by most of somali linguists) Mudug.. everything else is either north or south.. and thats how it is in almost all the nations of the world who speak in one language but different dialects..

Qansa is right. From what I have seen, according to 90% of the Isaaq kids on this site you are using "Waqooyi" if you don't talk/sing like this:

Proper Somali is spoken in Hawdka where all the great Somali poets hailed from everything else is just a bastardized version of Somali.
