Did anybody read this blog off of Hiiraan "Dying to Live". Very interesting look at the situation with the Somali shop keepers in the rural areas.

Although I'm not particularly happy with South Africans at the moment, they are in their homeland, and we are the ones who are going with our own feet to live with them on their turf.
Is the risks Somalis face over there really worth the effort?
Why can't Somalis go to Other African nations; i.e. Angola, Ghana, Uganda? why continue to go and live in rural SA?

The problem is not the Somalis moving to South Africa but the South Africans themselves. Not only they kill the Somalis but they also burn and kill other Africans such as Malawians, Nigerians, Zimbabweans etc. XENOPHOBIA is a big problem there. I mean I feel bad for black South Africans since they only started using their resources in 1994 but instead of hating on other Africans they can learn a thing or two about their business skills. U don't see Kikuyus or Jaluos burning Somali and South Asians businesses. We should move out of there in the end and let the Zulus kill themselves.
Somali community is thriving in Uganda too.

Agreed the problem is with the South Africans, but knowing that fact, why do Somalis continue to go there?
It's just mind boggling to me.

No, better stay their homeland and live with the little thing they got in life... some people are soo gready and they dont think they can stil make the same business and fortune if they go back to Somalia.... I stopped reading any news about Somalis who live in South Africa..
Imagine people who risk their lives and take the small boats so they can go to Europe where they know thousands of people lost their lives and never made to the land? I blame oursleves, Somalis as a nation.

True all of us collectively are to blame, as no one wants to lift a finger to help the nation.
I feel angry and helpless when I hear stories like that walaahi…My dad was telling me the other day about this kid who was trying so hard to get to the west, he is only 18 or 19, he tried to go to SA couple times but he was send back for lack of sharci, then he went to Libya where he got arrested, then they bribed someone to let him out and that he was waiting to get on a boat to go to Europe... It's so sad and hopeless.

That's just wrong...we need to adjust that attitude towards life there.

I understand why Somalis try to emigrate to countries like South Africa, u kno we got car bombs nowdays in Somalia. It is more appealing getting chased by a Zulu than getting blown up in a busy Mogadishu intersection. Lets take our country back people
