The demonstration was organized by Somali students and women civil society organizations.
Students carried banners and placards and were chanting slogans against any more violence in Mogadishu.
The said they are tired of the escalating violence orchestrated by some insurgent groups, including al-Shabab which has left scores dead and the capital, Mogadishu unstable.
Headmasters of schools spoke to the demonstrators and called for the Somali government to reopen Wadnaha Street which closed when the Ethiopians entered Somalia in late 2006.
The deputy chairman of the Union of students in Banadir region Mohamed Mohamud said a lot of students are with out learning because of the closed schools in the capital.
Halimo Sheik Hussein, the head of a Somali women organization demanded every side that can help to reopen the streets and the schools to take part of it.
The demonstrators marched through Wadnaha Street which closed two years ago and their demonstration ended safely.
