Barack Obama Apologizes for "Special Olympics" Comment on Jay Leno

Buzz up!Barack Obama went on Jay Leno to discuss the White House's most pressing issue...when Sasha and Malia are getting their dog.

(And the economy -- he slammed bonuses given to executives at companies that had received bailout cash.)

During his Thursday sitdown -- the first time a president has appeared on a nighttime chat show while in office -- Obama announced the pooch will be in place around the time he returns from a NATO conference April 5.

"This is Washington. That was a campaign promise," he joked. "No, I'm teasing. The dog will be there shortly."

When asked how he deals with criticism, Obama said Washington, D.C. "is a bit like American Idol, except everybody's Simon Cowell. Everybody's got an opinion."

Obama also bragged that he'd recently scored 129 points at the White House's bowling lanes. (He famously bowled a low 37 on the campaign trail.) Still, he called his game, "like the Special Olympics or something."

(Before the show aired, he apologized: "He thinks that the Special Olympics are a wonderful program that gives an opportunity to shine to people with disabilities from around the world," his spokesman said.)

At the end of the interview, Leno gushed, "Mr. President, I must say this has been one of the best nights of my life."
