with oil comes a lot of internal and external problems..

what are your take on this remembering Jubbaland state not yet standing on its feet, it will have to deal with a lot of challenges in the future...land dispute being the biggest challenge. i trust must of you are aware of the illegal offshore oil drilling taking place at the coast of Ras Kambooni, this deal was put into action last year if i'm am not mistaking and it is an agreement by the Kenyan Government's energy ministry and Chinies petroleum exploration companies.

finding and extracting oil/gas reserves could bring in revenues, create jobs, dissolve the regions economic crisis and eradicate poverty. if a governing body "jubbaland" gets a hold of these reserves, it could prevent this leading towards a conflict over control of the reserves between clans and subclans.

are you aware of the environmental situation in Gedo?? it is beyond disastrous, it is on a path of vigorous environmental degradation and the cause is the over exploitation of land and excessive harvesting of trees for commodities such as charcoal. this, in turn, reduces the available fertile land as the cutting down of trees reduces biodiversity which encourages a longer period of drought.

your end result will be rapid desertification which will harbor conflict between pastoral communities as well as agricultural communities as they will fight over scarce fertile land, and with the help of the urbanization taking place in Gedo and Cabudwaaq ultimately both pastoral and agricultural communities will be lost. what happens next is another economic crises reborn as most of the economy depends primarily on pastoral communities and agricultural communities.

actually i met a Jubbalander who studies petroleum engineering, he gave me the heads up about the oil in our regions and how it is illegally being extracted by neighboring Kenya
