Do you think you have changed?

Post by Sir-Luggoyo »

I mean, since you came to the West?

You realize that if/when you go back home or went to one of the third world countries. I have never thought for a moment that I will/have changed an iota but my wake up call was when I took a trip two years ago to Kenya. Everything seemed as if going in slow motion, time was not a factor to be considered and I was going mad at almost every event that required timing. However, the one thing I still laugh at was, when I came into a restaurant and had to literally beg the waiter to serve us. Then after I went to the cashier with a wet hand and asked for a tissue, he gave me a piece of paper cut from a magazine with writings on it. When I finished rubbing my hands, I looked for the trash pin, I couldn't find any..............I looked further into the restaurant, nothing. Then I asked the waiter what I should do with the crumbled piace of paper, he looked at me, a look that said "What an idiot u are" then he said "throw it" I said "where?" he said "Who cares, anywhere" I threw it yes, but I was feeling a little guilty about it.

Yes, I have changed alot. I am now more responsible and it takes a lot of pressure to irritate me and to lose my reasonings before I was more like whatever lola wants, lola gets kinda person but ofcourse as there are good things, I have also gained some bad ones: I trust no one, everyone i come across is a liar untill proven otherwise.

Yes.

I used to be a spoiled brat when I was back in spain and somalia.

I had my own nanny, driver to take me to visit my dad at work, my mom at work, lanugage school, quaraan teacher.
If I didnt get what I wanted, I pouted and then voila it was there.

Then I moved to canada and I had no driver...I was really pissed about that.
But Im kind glad I move here....if I had stayed there...I would have worse than paris hilton.

We moved to the west when i was very young, can't remember somalia and i've never been back... as a person i can't say i've changed because the only way i know of is the western way...I'm so used to the way things are in the west that it'd be a major shock for me if i ever did go back home.

Sir Lug

That does not reflect a major change between you and the rude kenyan restaurant cashier. It is simple a differnece of socio-economic strata. As you said-- u r westernised, he is third worldisized. Its a matter of being civilized. You are more civilized and he is more civilized than the amazonians who wear nothing, and dance naked in the amazon forest under the moon to pray for rain. :|

Its an issue of etiquette. You r lucky if he didnt pick his nose and then take your money from your hand, slightly touching you and passing on his germs. i am extremely cautious when i visit third world country. My visit to mombasa in 2005 was an eye opener.I wore eyes only burkah to avoid rape by stare.

Luggoyo:

Living in America has made me more cut throat. I truly believe I pursue my own personal interests above others. Yes, you become selfish the more you live here and are taught to pursue what is good for you.
