President Ahmed, who was elected in neighboring Djibouti in January, visited many African countries during his official state visit. He visited Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, Libya, and Djibouti.

He was welcomed in Aden Ade International airport in Mogadishu. The security of the city has been tightened ahead of the arrival of the president.
The former Islamist rebel leader was elected Somalia President in Djibouti, following the resignation of former President Abdullahi Yusuf.
The president and his delegation has been escorted to the presidential palace in Mogadishu.
